Gestures of friendship and peace between Catholics and Muslims

An armed Islamic youth group between the ages of 20 and 25 years old attacked the neighborhood of Bhai Pheru in the Punjab Province, Pakistan. They terrorized the community with violent acts and threats. While residents of the neighborhood sent a complaint to the police with what had occurred, they did nothing about it.

Despite the lack of enforcement by the law authorities, the Commission for Inter-religious Dialogue of the Episcopal Conference in Pakistan promotes friendship and peace gestures between Catholic and Muslim leaders and followers. In order to promote this culture of peace, the Archbishop of Lahore (capital of Punyab), Sebastian Francis Shaw, gathered with other leaders to plant an olive tree as a sign for peace. In this celebration, the meaning of the olive was explained, which is mentioned in both, the Bible and the Koran. Islamic leaders shared their desires to also pursue these types of peaceful activities.
