Buddhists and Christians in Myanmar await Pope Francis

The pope will travel to Myanmar from November 27-30. It is the first time that a pope will visit this country and residents in surrounding cities are waiting impatiently for him. In fact, since October 12 a large poster with the image of the pope has been installed in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Yangon.

“We thank God and Pope Francis for the visit to a country with a Buddhist majority. It’s the first time that we are receiving a pope,” said Zarni Saya, a young Catholic from the diocese of Pathein. “We hope that his presence will contribute to peace and reconciliation.”
