Philippines: “We are crying for the two Catholic students, but Marawi will be rebuilt”

The conflict between the Philippine army and 800 jihadists has changed life for Marawi’s inhabitants. Bishop Edwin de la Peña of the Apostolic Prelatures of Marawi explains, “We experience contrasting feelings; happy about the end of the conflict in Marawi, but we are mourning the deaths of two Catholic students. Now we are thinking about the physical, psychological and spiritual rebuilding of our community. We will go to the encounter of the faithful to resume our lives.”

We have seen, “the good that God knows to bring about from the bad, generating an enormous mobilization of good will, support and solidarity,” the bishop says.
