Jacques Mourad: “We break bread in the cave and sing to the light”

Fr. Mourad speaks of his torture, humiliation and suffering during his captivity in Syria with a big smile. He gets emotional when recalling the Hymn to the light, just as the first Christians did 2,000 years ago.

After fleeing the Islamic State, he was able to celebrate Mass together with the Qaryatayn community in the catacombs, singing the same songs as the first Christian communities. He survived the reclusion forced by Daesh terrorists thanks to two virtues – silence and kindness – constantly repeating “Love your enemies.”
