Last December 10, hundreds of Christians were able to celebrate the feast of Mar Behnam (St. Behnam) in the shrine-monastery where the saint’s relics are found. This site close to Qaraqosh, in the Nineveh Plains, is one of the oldest places of worship for Syrian Catholicism.
The monastery finds itself in a rebuilding stage after attacks by the Islamic State. The efforts are thanks to a Fraternite initiative in Iraq helping allow the faithful to participate in Eucharistic liturgies.
