Anwar Lal Dean is 62 years old and has been elected a member of the Senate of Pakistan. It’s a historic feat, as it’s the first time a Christian has been chosen for the position in the Sindh province as well as in all of Pakistan. A young Hindu women was also elected alongside him.
These two representatives from religious minorities are a sign of hope. According to Archbishop Joseph Coutts, “it’s a time of joy for our community of Karachi. We encourage the Christian senator to loyally continue his work bettering the government, the country and the entire Christian community.”
