Afghanistan is one of the countries where Christians are most persecuted. Sister Mariam of Jesus, Fraternity of the Little Sisters of Jesus, talks about her work of evangelization for almost 50 years in the country.
“When you’re on a mission in a land like Afghanistan, you can’t evangelize conventionally,” she says. The only way to do this is through life. Over the years, we wanted to be the bearers of the message of the Gospel, but we could only do so by setting a good example, trying to live correctly, as the Bible says.
The Little Sisters of Jesus arrived in Kabul in July 1954 and a year later began working as nurses in a state hospital in the city.
