International award for Fr. Tom, a witness of faith among Jihadists in Yemen

In 2016, Fr. Tom was kidnapped and held for 18 months. While he was held, he stayed calm and peaceful, always ready to encounter his abductors.

On Sept. 15, 2019, the “Stephanus Foundation” recognized him as a figure for persecuted Christians at a ceremony in Frankfurt. Fr. Tom testified that prayer was an important pillar to him in hard times.

The foundation helps persecuted Christians in countries of the world where religious freedom does not exist, or where this right is violated. In past years, they have honored Cardinal Louis Raphael Sako, Patriarch of the Chaldeans, and Cardinal Joseph Zen of Hong Kong.
