Bishops call on the European Union to give more support to persecuted Christians in Nigeria

Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich wrote a letter representing the bishops of Europe where they pledge to advocate for the EU to fight violence and persecution of Christians.

The letter is focused especially on Nigeria, because “they live in a situation of continuous attacks by terrorists, insurgents and militias, which in some cases reaches levels of genuine criminal persecution.”

Leaders in the United States joined this call to support Christians in Nigeria. Sam Brownback said that “there are many people murdered in Nigeria, and we fear that it will spread far in that region. This problem has caught my attention a lot in the last two years, but particularly last year.”
