Agenzia Fides reports the news of the return of about two hundred Christian families to Mosul, in the Nineveh plain.
These are those who had been forced to flee their homes in the summer of 2014, when Mosul and a large part of the Nineveh Plain had been conquered by the ISIS jihadist militias.
Many of these Christian displaced people had fled to Iraqi Kurdistan, in particular to Erbil, others had emigrated abroad: unfortunately, at the moment, the numbers of those who decide to return to the houses they had abandoned are still very small.
Standtogether last week reported how the return of Christians to the Nineveh Plain represents a priority for the Iraqi authorities themselves and the efforts of the NGO “Sawaed Mosuliya” initiative, with the collaboration of mostly Muslim youth, to restore the church.
