On March 24, the Day of Prayer and Fasting in Memory of the Missionary Martyrs was celebrated. In Brazil, we remembered 3 missionaries who were killed for expressing their faith.
Nazareno Lanciotti, an Italian missionary killed twenty years ago in the State of Mato Grosso, where he had spent thirty years of intense missionary work, dedicated to the proclamation of the Gospel and human promotion, as Father Enzo Gabrieli (postulator of the cause of beatification) who visited the places where Father Lanciotti worked, explained to Agenzia Fides.
Missionary martyrs were also remembered in Indonesia. In this case, Rufinus Tigau, a Catholic catechist and animator who was killed without cause by Indonesian security forces on October 26, 2020 in the province of Papua, Fides reported. Salomina Gobay, a classmate at STAN, notes that Rufinus also helped the poor of his village. According to her, Rufino was a very intelligent person and enthusiastic about helping others “a very modest person who was always smiling. A man of faith and charity, he was always with the people”.
The missionary martyrs were also remembered in Nigeria. In particular, Michael Nnadi, a seminarian killed because, while kidnapped, “he continued to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ”.
For Christians who mourn his death, this is not a loss. After the blood of Jesus was shed on earth, the seeds of our redemption were sown.
