Mumbai: The diocesan fund for the health expenses of poor families.

The Corpus Fund of the Archdiocese of Mumbai was established in 2006 it was an initiative of the then auxiliary bishop, Msgr. Percival Fernandez, to address the needs of many poor families who could not afford large medical expenses. AsiaNews reports the news on the 20th anniversary of Bishop Fernandez’s episcopal ordination.

In 15 years of activity, the Corpus Fund of the Archdiocese of Bombay has raised about 130 million rupees (about ,600,000) and has been able to respond to 58,000 requests from families in difficulty.

There are currently 2016 families assisted.

The solidarity network is maintained thanks to volunteers, first and foremost the parish priests, who act as a bridge between family requests and the fund. Monsignor Fernandez continues to follow up on reports and donor relations.
