Nabil Habashi Khadim, 62, was a respected businessman and philanthropist. He was kidnapped on November 8, 2020. He was killed by a shot to the head, using a Kalashnikov. The jihadist movement released the video of the murder. One of the reasons for the murder was that he had contributed to the construction of the only Christian place of worship in Bir Al-Abd (The church of the Virgin of Anba Karras).
The video of the execution, was sent on April 18 on the jihadist group’s social channels.
The death has generated pain and consternation in the Egyptian Coptic community, whose leader, Tawadros II, issued a statement of condemnation and asked for prayers for the man kidnapped five months ago by the Takfiris in North Sinai, and subsequently martyred. The Church is praying for him and his family, “mourns a faithful son and servant who is now in the heavenly glory of Christ for having borne witness to his faith even to the sacrifice of blood”. The statement concludes by confirming the support of the Coptic Orthodox community for the efforts of the Egyptian state to counter acts of hatred and terrorism in order to preserve the unity of Egypt for a future of peace and prosperity.
